How to install the Windows application, generate and renew your licence, and keep it up to date.
The Windows application runs on your machine and connects to your database directly, so it
reaches databases that are not available from the internet. It is the same designer as the
website, needs a Pro or Unlimited plan, and is Windows only.
Select Download for Windows, then run Setup.exe. It
installs for your user account and needs no administrator rights.
Start WoodFireERD. It shows a machine id.
Paste that id into the Download page and select Generate licence. Your
licence file downloads.
Apply the licence file in the application. It opens on Read a schema.
Your licence
A licence covers one machine. Generating one for a second machine gives you a new file
for it; the first machine keeps working until its licence expires, and is not renewed
after that.
Changing hardware or renaming the machine does not affect it. Reinstalling Windows does —
generate a new licence from the Download page.
It expires a few days after your subscription anniversary. Download a fresh licence when
the application tells you it is due; it starts reminding you a fortnight ahead.
You do not need an internet connection to start the application or open a schema, only to
download a licence or an update.
If your subscription ends, the application works until the licence expires.
Updates
The application checks for updates itself and downloads them in the background. It tells you
when a download is in progress, and when a new version is ready. Close the application to
apply it.
Differences from the website
It opens on Read a schema instead of a landing page, and there is no sign-in — your
licence lets you in. Everything else works the same way, and a .erproj.json file
saved in one opens in the other.
